yesterday (as a pre-pre-birthday festivity) my little posse and i made the trek up to mt. hood (about 80 miles away from downtown portland) where, even in the middle of summer, there is still snow on the ground.

Hahhaha! it blows my mind how *little* snow there is now. Considering when we went up to government camp like a month ago there was still 4 feet at Government Camp.

I will totally bring you cross country skiing or snowshoeing! They are the best!! (Unless you are downhill skier/snowboarder types, which I know nothing about.) Whenever I'm in the falling snow I turn into a little kid. It's sooo downright magical!!!

i know nothing about ANY of it (seriously yesterday was like the third time i've ever stood on snow in my lifetime!) but i am all about it. to quote morrissey: "take me anywhere i don't care i don't care i don't care."

I didn't either when I moved here! (California girl!) I too had only thrown 3-month-old-snow balls. Snowshoeing is exactly like hiking only you strap thingeys onto your hiking boots. Cross Country skiing is like roller skating but magical. And you actually dress pretty much like you dress for biking in the rain in the city (an outerproof layer, warm non-cotton layers underneath, like any fleece you might have) except you add an extra layer or so. My bike gear actually does double duty when I go up to the mountain.

Here's (http://flickr.com/photos/theta444/148541067/in/set-72057594138106771/) a view down towards Timberline Lodge from the almost-top :)

Also, did you realize that it is a dormant volcano (http://flickr.com/photos/theta444/148540490/in/set-72057594138106771/)? (I know, I'm totally encyclopedia-ing out here..)

yep! flickr away. you should put your pics on flickr, it is so fun to get comments and stuff on them. also if you have a flickr account you can make some 'friends' or 'family' only so they are private. If you want to friend me you can see some of my pics that are not publicly available...

ha, it looks like i've already added you to my account (i'm jupiterjuniper)--i really don't use flickr for anything these days (in between photobucket and picasa), because i'm maxed out for a free account and don't want to pay for the pro.

Definitely reminds me of Colorado, especially Timberline Lodge, since the Stanley Hotel (which was the inspiration for the Shining)is located here. I love snow in the summertime. :)

you HAVE TO KNOW if windy's standing around in a t-shirt, that the temperature is a non-issue.

'Tis true... I was only "cold" when the snow was down my pants/in my shoes. Otherwise... it was freakin' hawt out! ;-)
