believe it or not, i'm feeling like i need to use this journal more.

--

so i am still sick. last week's flu dissipated into just overall ichy-achy feelings, a cold with allergies and fatigue kind of deal. tuesday-wednesday was the worst of it; thursday night i made it about three hours--socializing and playing records whilst nursing a hot toddy--before realizing i couldn't physically stand up anymore. friday i was granted a bit more wellness, so i tried to respect it so i could enjoy some halloween festivities. that said, friday-saturday, combined, are partially to blame for the way i'm feeling right now.

it was most definitely the flu, and the CDC (via [livejournal.com profile] thetathrees) states that 90% of tested flu cases right now are H1N1. to me, i don't care what it is or is called: a flu is a flu. still, between all the media freak-out about swine flu, paired with the number of infected people i know, it's valid contextualization.

i've had a long history of sub-par health, though i used to be far, far more Unhealthy: the type of girl who was sick 4, 5, 6 times a year, always picking up something. i've always believed my allergies played into my susceptibility, in that being allergic to my world (specifically the natural one, but sadly/primarily, my domestic one) lowers my defenses, and all the other transient stuff gets in. doesn't help that i've been living with teachers and/or workers of retail for the last decade.

so it is that today, monday, all that remains is my usual (killer) tonsillitis, from which i suffer 1-2 times a year. i can't swallow without clenching my jaw tightly. my tonsils are basically a martyred and nagging family member: "i'll save you from this cold, but i'll make sure you suffer from discomfort that's probably about as bad as a cold." thanks, tonsils. every time i get here, i have to make a choice: will it require antibiotics (usually 50/50); will it require surgery (i tend to avoid this as often as i can, even though it has been suggested several times over the last 10 years). right now i'm seriously considering just getting the nasty lil' buggers out of my throat, but worried about the tonsils prevent sickness vs. tonsils harbor sickness conflict.

but let me just say: i am sick of being sick.
