as i have mentioned, phase 1 of my shifts at sundance HQ deal with volunteer check-in. phase 2 is for the filmmakers. here's a one-minute glimpse of what i do when it comes time for the filmmakers to check-in. this was shot on a pretty standard/busy day, with me trying very hard to avoid the camera crew, though invariably getting into shots regardless. and just look at chrissigrl handling it all like a boss.

100% of this mix (the second one, forthcoming, is exclusively dance-y music, and that cheats with some jams from 2009) is music released in 2010, and if you don't listen to new music, i can honestly say this is 20+ songs of sheer perfection. i'll post the setlist by request to individuals, but part of the beauty of a mix is what you don't expect, so posting it now would defeat that purpose.

it's difficult to explain, but whenever i'm Dressing Up lady-style, i often identify more strongly with drag than i do just being an aretha franklin-style Natural Woman. so it is that i'm totally smitten with fauxnique, a san francisco performance artist and biologically-gendered female drag queen. fauxnique made history by being the first woman to ever win the miss trannyshack pageant. from fauxnique's website: "her practice of feminism celebrates glamorous women as masters of artifice, and her intimacy with both the oppressive and empowering effects of feminine tropes allows her to create a zone of play, from which she makes her particular critique." yesssss.

so funny how pitchfork's choices, by and large, are always a mix of "YES! ABSOLUTELY" and "WUT?"--there are some terrific choices on here (1, 6, 10, 12, 18 & 20 are some of my favorite songs ever), and there are some really strange ones.

and who knew we'd already be nearly at the close of a decade? case in point: it's infinitely strange to me that ibar has a "5-year flashback" DJ night. i mean, really? (even though 5 years ago i was going and the music WAS amazing.)
