hi, i need some new livejournals to read, to spice up my friends list. do you have someone on your friends list (who actually still uses this thing, like i/we do?) whom you find inspiring, or funny, or intelligent, or whom you find yourself referring to maybe to IRL friends? or maybe just someone who might be a good fit, given what you know about me? comment with some lj users and i'll peruse.

i'll also take interesting twitter-ers, but please, no ljers-who-post-their-twitter-feed-to-livejournal. no.

houseguest hostin' is going well. brief summary of sights: downtown, food carts, chinatown, kennedy school, mashtun brewery, backspace, floating world comics, voodoo donuts, cameron's books, powells, blossoming lotus cafe, 3-d center of art and photography, pearl district, first thursday, vita cafe.

of the above, i want to write a little blurb about 3-d center of art and photography, just because i've been wanting to go since i moved here, and the folks that run the place were impressively nice and passionate about their niche.

considered the only 3-d museum in the united states, the center is a non-profit gallery with a rotating collection of exhibitions and theatre presentations, as well as regular workshops. their gallery houses all kinds of 3-d imagery, including antique stereocards, photography, lenticulars, viewmasters, and more. it's $5 regularly, but free on first thursdays.

the theatre presentation last night was unseen ellis island, featuring images of immigrants coming into the states, as well as images of ellis island as it exists today: surprisingly, aside from the museum (on island 1), ellis island (islands 2 and 3) exists unrestored and in urban decay (this is shocking to me). approximately 12 million immigrants entered the united states via ellis island; apparently 50% of all americans can trace their ancestry back to these immigrants. on this note...

...a poll!

since i am no longer doing project 365, but i liked the routine/ritual of having a "project" and end results and deadlines, i'm looking for something else to do for this year. this can be something creative--writing, art, craft, creation of any kind--and does not need to be photography. i am asking you, dear lj-readers and followers of project 365, for suggestions.

please comment with an idea for a creativity-inspiring project for me (and maybe others, maybe you!) to participate in for 2009. i need at least one (but am open to multiple) project idea to begin!

EDIT: i have one idea already, which will be a combo of monthly self-portraiture + polaroid formatting. i want more though!

tell me, dear lj-friends and readers:

when you're about to do something (or "fixin' to," for those southerners), something like approach your front door to unlock it, debark a bus/train, set out ingredients for cooking, or consult a map/grocery list, etc...when do you begin to "prepare" for this action? is it just right a second before it is happening, or is it many seconds more?

there are times where i get my key(s) ready easily like a full minute or two before i am near the door. i stand up on the bus before it has even slowed down to my stop. i'm not sure if this is conventional behavior, or the actions of someone with an obsessive nature.

what does your lj username mean/refer to?

(believe it or not, i don't know the answer for most of you.)

i'm going to do something a little different with this entry. for all you music lovers: please vote for the "best setlist." you can either make an assessment as whole (DJ 1 vs. DJ 2), or pick certain "sets" and declare the winner. hell, if you want, you can score each "set" and declare who "wins" by who has the most points. you invent the rules! i am interested in is your feedback, so please comment!

a few important details:
-we played 100% vinyl
-we limited ourselves to 3-song sets, ideally transitioning out of what the last song was and then constructing a coherent demi-set

so without further adieu, last night's setlists from tiga:

how does prince* make you feel?

a) turned on.
b) nostalgic and/or happy (i love the music).
c) all of the above.
d) indifferent/unaffected.
e) irritated.
f) _________________________.

this is the line in the sand. i'm awfully curious.
local folks, i'm looking to your answers especially closely.

*"old" prince, not new crazy/religious prince. i'm talking purple-rain-when-doves-cry-1999-little-red-corvette-pussy-control-etc-etc, not how you feel about something you may have read recently involving strippers.

think of 3 pictures you'd like to see: things around my house, in my life, locally, or whatever... something i can take a picture of easily. tell me what you want to see and i'll post the pictures* here...

i can't do polls anymore, because i let my paid account expire. [this is okay by me.] so i'm posting a "poll" to be answered in the comments, because i'm curious.

what fad, specifically accessory, do you remember wearing in the 90's? [the idea of this is to avoid the quintessential 80's garb--we all KNOW that stuff was ugly, and we all had it--but get into the early-to-mid 90's era of ugliness.]

click here to see one of mine. )

i threw my back out doing yardwork yesterday. the place looks beautiful, though. funny how being out in the yard is the enabler to meet each and every one of your neighbors. i don't remember any of their names.

read more of house of leaves last night. the most frustrating thing about a book--especially a good book--is knowing how long it's going to take you to finish. after about an hour of reading, i was only 45 pages in. it's such a long book, and i am anxious and excited to watch it unfold.

so, i ask this...
[Poll #281685]

only answer, obviously, if you have read it. i just want to know who i can talk to that'll know what i'm going through.
