greetings, ye journalers and closet photographers.

this friday signals the beginning of a new year, and thus, for many of us, the beginning of project 365. some of you are already in progress, others are retiring, and others are starting anew.

let this be your invitation to join us in 2010 with a photo-a-day. and to make it easier, here's our support network of fellow photographers who are in it, hopefully, for the long haul:

i am actually really excited to begin again. 2008 taught me a lot of things about photography, and photographing something every day taught me a lot about my life. i used a fixed image shape--a square--for all images, and i was pleased with the uniformity and restriction of that template. for 2010, i've designed a template for portrait and landscape (which you'll see implemented soon enough), as means to also force uniformity but also give an overall coherency to the posts. like 2008, i plan on posting all photos at the end of the week (which means, one week from today, you'll be seeing my first 3 shots of 2010). i debated making these posts friends only or filtered, but decided instead to keep it public, so family, friends, and other non-LJ users can follow along. my entire 2008 set can be found here:

as i often said then, to make this "work," you really have to define parameters that are appropriate for you. for me, it's this: a template; a weekly post; "day forgiveness" for dull weeks or particularly active days, wherein an image can be used for a different day as a placeholder for a photo-less day. that's me. it suits me.

i'm pretty excited to be shooting with 3 lenses this year, and if nothing else, am eager to get to know my new fisheye a little better. on many days i'm packing 2 cameras every where i go (a terrific point-and-shoot, canon digital elph, and my nikon D70). i've got so many ideas already for shots i want to take, but have been saving myself for 2010. and, well well well, wouldn't you know that it's about that time.

i know half of you are already posting pictures of yo'self on your own journals/flickr/FBs/wherever, but because that will be nearly impossible for me to locate in years to come, comment to this entry with your halloween costume(s) this year, s'il vous plait. (i wish i had starting doing this years ago...)

the final stop on my demiworldtour this year was new york city, a city that i've never loved but somehow constantly finding myself visiting for Very Good Reasons. this visit (my third) was all about seeing friends and coney island.

[livejournal.com profile] teamradvak picked me up from JFK and we headed onwards to coney island. it was after sunset, but my pictures still came out decently thanks to my lil' point-and-shoot camera with maxed-out ISO settings, and a lot of patience. the boardwalk was desolate, save a few late-night runners, and it was cold and windy as all hell (being right on the water). somehow, the vacancy of the place and it's general aura of a place once cared for, in disrepair, made for a moderately creepy walk. we kept it brief, stopping mostly for photo-ops and revelry. coney island was, of course, the final seed of inspiration i needed for my carnival/sideshow-themed halloween party and costume.

after leaving coney island, we took the train into the east village, where i met up with my sometimes-fiance, [livejournal.com profile] sparkle_m0ti0n, and his lad, jeremy. the bar, nowhere, was dimly lit with a fantastic jukebox. about an hour later, i was experiencing pizza-heaven, with a slice of pizza (artichoke, alfredo sauce, cheese) from artichoke, which puts all the pizza i've ever had IN MY ENTIRE LIFE to shame. shame! also, i was also amused that they sell beer (on tap) in a big gulp to-go cup. there were a lot of hipsters in there.

we ended up somewhere else at another bar afterwards (i couldn't tell you where or what it was called), then finally home to m & j's place (after i realized i'd been up for about 27 hours at this point, still on vienna-time). i slept like a baby.

the next full day [livejournal.com profile] sparkle_m0ti0n and i spent galavanting around new york city (vegetarian indian buffet; museum of sex; stonewall; greenwich village) and ended the day by walking a scenic parkway along the hudson river. we walked over 7 miles, we figured, on a completely gorgeous fall day: new york city was in rare form.

my last (half) day was spent in manhattan, where i finally got to see grand central station and the new york public library; the latter had an amazing exhibition of old maps of new amsterdam (new york city). a man took a picture of my starry cowboy boots as i came down the staircase of the library.

--

and that concludes the tales of my demiworldtour for 2009. all that's left on my plate is a much overdue trip to seattle next month, and then i'm all about 2010 adventures.
